René Cutforth (6 February 1909 - 1 April 1984) was a British journalist, television and radio broadcaster and writer. Reynolds Cutforth was born at Swadlincote, Derbyshire on 6 February 1909, and spent his childhood in Woodville, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. He received his formal educated at Denstone College, which he entered in September 1922. His first job was a clerk with the Midland Bank.

Having seen service in the Army in Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Western Desert Campaign, and having been a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany, he joined the BBC in 1946.
