Lovely art if that is what you are getting it for. If you are getting it to read to you children them skip this version. I have an older edition and the language is rich, eloquent and beautiful. Why do we insist on dumbing down our children? Trust me, kids can understand dynamic language just fine. This is a poor edition.

Based on the reviews I made sure to purchase a hardback edition. However, we purchased a used edition from an independent seller. We got the 1st edition from Chronicle books, however it did not look like the pictures. I have attached some pictures to show. The Rose and the butterfly picture is included in the book but is not on the cover. Each fable is illustrated by a different artist. This is an interesting approach, but I don't always care for all the styles.

I bought this for my daughter who is 3. She's a bit young to understand the moral lesson of the fables, however this is a nice book to have in a child's library. I have been enjoying reading the fables which I hadn't read since I was a child, as now I am better able to appreciate the morals.

Classic Aesop's not the watered down "feel good" versions available in most copies today. Good lessons, with the original consequences. Definitely worth it if you don't want your kids to be "snowflakes" (easily melted) in the midst of adversity and the need for critical thinking and discernment.

The CD is an excellent addition to this book! While the book contains over 100 stories the CD covers 42 of the best of them and references the title of each story and the page it can be found in the book.

For parents who would like to convert the disc to MP3 files and add the story/track information here is a list of are all the stories on the CD. If you use J. As other reviewers have said, the worst thing about this is the fact that the stories have all been "updated". A lot of the charm was lost from the original stories, at least in my opinion. The morals do still remain, so it doesn't make them irrelevant. The pictures are extremely beautiful, too, so if you don't mind the changes to the story, then it's well worth a dollar.

As a child I loved the fairy-tales and fables. I was excited when I seen this book to introduce my children to the famous Aesop's Fables.

This is a nice hardcover book with thick pages. It contains 20 of the well-known fables I learned and read as a child. They have been updated with more of a modern twist, but they are still wonderful. The illustrations in the book are spectacular. The words are not too small and not too large. At the bottom below each of the fable is the moral that the child should be learning from reading the passage. The majority of the fables are one page of writing. There are a few that have two pages. It is easy to read for young children.

There is also a CD with the Aesop's Fable book is a great resource to go along with the book. It does resource the book and advise what page the story can be found in the book.

I purchased this book for use in homeschool with a second and fourth grader. It worked great. It would also be suitable for smaller children.

I LOVE THIS VERSION of Aesop's Fables! The illustrations are gorgeous, and there are so many of the original tales. I buy this for every ohmigoodness-I'm-pregnant moment that my friends inevitably have. Sometimes, I will buy several at a time, just so that I have one on hand when the moment occurs.

SUGGESTIONS: For the perfect children's literature additions, find a used copy of Udo Weigelt's "The Sandman" (it is sadly out of print), and also get Mary Engelbreit's "Mother Goose". Both of those books are just lovely, absolute musts!
Aesop, [ 620 - 560 B.C. ] Ambassador to King Croesus, didn't write down his fables, but they were so well received as stories that they were handed down from generation to generation and country to country to the present day.

This handsome 1999 edition, The Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables beautifully illustrated by Don Daily [ 1940- 2002 A.D. ] sets out Aesop's best loved stories and their moral message to delight and inform children of all ages.
