When Mole ventures out of his burrow and befriends the other animals, he finds himself being swept up in a series of adventures, from a dangerous trek through the weasel-infested Wild Wood to trying to keep Toad's sudden obsession with motor-cars from wrecking his life. And when Toad's reckless ways end up costing him his own home, the four animals find themselves banding together to come to his aid.

The Disney films The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and The Reluctant Dragon are other adaptations. There is a ten-year gap between Grahame's penultimate book and the publication of his triumph, The Wind in the Willows. During that decade, Grahame became a father. The wayward, headstrong nature he saw in his little son Alastair he transformed into the swaggering Mr. Toad, one of its four principal characters. The character in the book known as Ratty was inspired by his good friend, and writer, Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. Grahame mentions this in a signed copy he gave to Quiller-Couch's daughter, Foy Felicia. Despite its success, he never attempted a sequel.

Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh on March 3, 1859. In 1930, Milne's stage version was brought to another audience in "Toad of Toad Hall. He was the third of four children. Many of the essays were published as the book "Pagan Papers" (1893) and the five orphan characters featured in the papers were developed into the books "The Golden Age" (1895) and "Dream Days" (1898). The Wind in the Willows" (1908) was based on bedtime stories and letters to his son and it is where the characters Rat, Badger, Mole and Toad were created. On July 6, 1932, Kenneth Grahame died. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is an animated feature produced by Walt Disney Productions and released to theaters on October 5, 1949 by RKO Radio Pictures. It is composed of two segments based on the stories of The Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, respectively. It is the eleventh animated feature in the Disney Animated Canon as well as the last of the package films produced by Disney until The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in 1977.
