This is the 2nd copy of this book I've bought. The first was for myself and has been a great help with my rheumatoid arthritis over the years. Now that my daughter has been diagnosed with the same disease, I wanted her to have a copy for her own, not just my borrowed copy. Besides, I needed mine back!

The idea that we can take charge of our disease and make informed decisions, and especially, improve our condition through strength training is an empowering concept. The book discusses everything from diet to drugs to alternative treatments, with detailed instructions and diagrams on stretching and strength exercises that can be done at home and really make a difference.

I showed this book to my rheumatologist, and he was quite impressed. I'd recommend it for anyone with arthritis.

I read Miriam Nelson's book Strong Women Stay Young several years ago and found it to be an excellent resource for helping me deal with osteopenia: it was / is science-based with real exercise solutions that I can do easily at home (I'm not one to go to a gym). This book is similar, with science-based information and exercises for arthritis sufferers, with the added benefit of nutritional information as well. My only disappointment with the book is that it does not address dealing with low-back arthritis with exercise; instead, its focus is on arthritis in major joints and how to mitigate it in those locations in the body. Given that the authors are scientists and the book is the result of their research, I can only conclude that their research did not include low-back arthritis. Even so, it's still an informative and useful tool, with the overall point being that exercise can help arthritis, so I still recommend it. (And I've been able to find sound resources for low-back exercises on the internet.) Easy to read and understand.

Good ideas to reduce pain and increase mobility. Not totally honest. You can't really beat Arthritis. You can learn to cope with it..

Many exercises, foods and natural remedies to help you control your pain. I have had arthritic pain from knee injuries and back injuries for many years. With suggestions from this book I have been able to cut down my prescription pain medications by half.

Just the first 4 exercises made a Great improvement.

The book was fine, I expected something different concerning simplicity! However, I can use some of the information going forward!
I was recently diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, and I started following the nutritional suggestions in this book. I think it's already starting to help! Plus it tells you how to perform strengthening exercises for your aching joints. I am a big fan of Dr. Nelson's other works. I like how she explains the science and the applications. I plan to share this with my mom, who also has osteoarthritis.
