John Charles Lodge (born 20 July 1945, Erdington, Birmingham) is an English musician, best known as bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of the longstanding rock band the Moody Blues. He has also worked as a record producer and has collaborated with other musicians outside the band. In 2018, Lodge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues.

In Lodge Magic, John Trepp offers a fresh perspective about the lives of people suffering from mental illness. This mosaic of stories depicts real life for the people who live in Tasks' lodges - where they thrive in an atmosphere of shared responsibility, pain, and joy. These people are not strangers; they are our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers - and friends, neighbors, and co-workers. They are people who started with bright futures, were derailed by schizophrenia or other severe mental illness, and found a life transforming experience through an intentional community. Lodge Magic is a story of hope: for people with mental illness, their families and friends, and their communities.

I worked with the author and continue to work with the organization portrayed in the book. I have had much success with my clients using the Fairweather model.

Lodge Magic recounts the moving stories of real people who have been pushed to the margins based on stereotypes about people with mental illness. Despite their individual diagnoses, these people have become largely self-sufficient, and solid members of their communities. On the human dimension, this is goodness. In addition, the support offered in the lodge environment means that the funds provided by the various government agencies support people who are turning around and paying taxes back in to the system to help themselves and others. On the economic dimension, this is also goodness. The book is worth reading to see how one agency has crafted what is clearly a win-win outcome for all of us.

Lodge Magic is filled with cleverly written and captivating stories about people with mental disorders. The reader is immediately swept into the lives of special people with hopes and dreams. The book nudges us to understand more sensitively, the struggles, the gifts, and the journeys of each person. John K Trepp, the author, does a superb job getting out the story of these folks and of the supporting role that the lodges play for these patients. It's the healthy mission, and the love of each person in the lodges that benefits all who enter these homes of refuge.
