The Temples of Karnak book. As his translator Deborah Lawlor remarks (introduction to Nature Word 47), Schwaller de Lubicz's Egyptian studies are only a part of his overall work as a metaphysician and philosopher. Born in Alsace-Lorraine, then part of Germany, René Schwaller grew up in a polyglot atmosphere.

Schwaller de Lubicz settled in Egypt in 1938 and for the next 15 years studied the symbolism of the temples, particularly Luxor, finding what he considered to be proof that the ancient Egyptians were the ultimate examples of Synarchy, because the were ruled by a group of elite initiates. He failed to point out that the Egyptian civilization was static and limited.

A. Schwaller de Lubicz to the monuments, ruins, statues, and bas-reliefs of the temples of Karnak. Because of recent vandalism many of the artifacts are no longer intact, and it is no longer possible to see many of the details captured in these images. This promenade through the temples of Karnak reveals the remains of a world devoted to an unimpeachable faith in the afterlife, a faith whose conviction seems to have exalted its builders and artists, as was the case for several brief centuries with those who constructed the cathedrals of the Middle Ages. One did not work at fashioning these stones, nor were these works sculpted under someone's strict authority; here it was necessary to act out of the heart. Every gesture in the depictions, every arrangement in the buildings, is a hieroglyph from the symbolic language of the sages who spoke to spirit and consciousness.

This book is BIG and HEAVY! I was surprised but it is a fantastic book. The photos are crisper than I have seen in other books. The detail is really remarkable. I bought it for visual reference primarily. I seems that most new research in ancient history from the Ancient Near East is by French, German, or even Polish scientists. Unfortunately most results are in journals and in their native languages. I am glad this one was translated into English.

I have been wanting this book ever since I first saw in the Univ of WA bookstore back in the early 2000's. The pictures are incredible. You're not going to find a more complete record of this beautiful temple. It was worth every penny.
