Although I enjoyed them all. Mountain Magic was an excellent choice for my recent plane trip. The book's a bit pricey but worth every penny. I highly recommend reading this one.

Maybe I hadn't grasped exactly what this book was all about when I bought it, so it could be my "fault" if you like. I started reading it last night and have made it through the first half dozen stories. I'm struggling. Each story so far has been of a dark and nasty nature, which in itself wouldn't be too bad - if there were a proper "ending". They've all been very short, and I keep reading and waiting to see what "happens". But the ending to each has been sort of abrupt, and sudden - more like the punchline to a joke than a proper story ending. I don't know - they just seem to cut off, with no real satisfactory resolution.

I'm very disappointed. My husband is a born and bred Appalachian man and I bought this book as a Christmas present for him. I decided to have a quick look first - I know what he likes and what he doesn't. Unfortunately, this book he wouldn't. It will be headed to the Goodwill store as soon as I've finished reading it. Yes, I am going to finish it. It's that same ghoulish feeling some people feel when watching a train wreck - you don't really WANT to, but you just can't tear your eyes away.

Sorry to the authors... this is just my personal opinion.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. A couple were a bit creepy for my taste but if you like that kind of story you'll like those also. Some of my favorites were The Ascension of Mercy Grace, A Silent Supper and Dancing on a Stump. Although I enjoyed them all. Mountain Magic was an excellent choice for my recent plane trip. The book's a bit pricey but worth every penny. I highly recommend reading this one.
