Charlotte Montague is a freelance writer who specialises in general historyand true crime. After gaining an MA degree in History from Sussex University, she began writing on a variety of subjects including ethnic cultures travel and music. More recently, she developed an interest in the history of mythical creatures. As I read it, I found myself mentally making corrections, which made it hard to concentrate. However, it's not all bad.

Charlotte Montague Vampires explores these diverse myths and legends, their impact upon popular culture and the possible explanations.

From Bram Stoker's Dracula to Stephenie Meyer's hugely successful Twilight series of books, writers, artists and film makers have been entranced by the vampiric legend for hundreds of years. I was looking for a book that would discuss the various vampire myths and the history behind them. Granted, vampires don't exist, so I wasn't expecting a textbook with expert commentary. What I was expecting wa to learn some fun and interesting "facts". This book is so poorly written, however, that I didn't even make it half way through. The author jumps from vampires to warewolfs to baby eating witches to Freud. She repeats most of the information over and over and fills the space in between with fluff. The "research" for the book could've come straight from Google or wikipedia. Not informative or interesting. I guess that's what you get for 99¢.

I choose to rate it as a 5 star book. I used it for a report & it has more facts then I ever dreamed of. I highly recommend it to both History lovers and vampire believers.

This book, simply put, is excellent. It has an old-fashioned feel to it (the pages are designed to look like parchment without actually being parchment), and it tends to emphasize the Vampire in folklore and legends, rather than the fictitious creatures found in literature and the movies. It talks about real historical Vampires (i.e. Elizabeth Bathory, Gilles de Rais, Vlad Dracula, Peter Kurten, etc.). Personally, this book has given me answers to many questions that I have asked myself in the course of my own research. Overall, I love this book, and I would recommend it to all Vampire scholars or hunters.

I have had this book for about two years now and I've read it through just once but I've come back and read it as a vampire resource countless times. I was recommended the book from a friend who thought I'd like it, she was right. I love all the mythology being put together alongside cult vampire classics such as Dracula up to the Twilight and True Blood times. I took off the papery sleeve as soon as I got it home, I like the feel of the actual hardcover and especially with a front cover that shows the secrets it's about to reveal it has to taken off!

The research in the book is very extensive and doesn't just cover vampires but also steps into others like werewolves too. Obviously the majority of the book is about vampires and the book is so well laid out with pictures that this cannot fail to capture your imagination. It's a book that I've noticed when friends visit that they tend to pick it out of my books and have a look through, there is definitely something for everyone in here.

I really enjoyed the chapters about vampires on screen and also vampire influences in music. Again the pictures help to reel you in and this book becomes more than just a book about mythology. It's a book I will continue to go back to and if you're interested in vampires then you must have it. I know she has other books in this series and they are definitely going on my wish list. Christmas is coming and all that... yep I said it!
