When the French stronghold De la Noye is claimed in the fourteenth-century struggle for English expansion into Aquitaine, the conquering Sir Hyatt weds the lovely Lady Aurelie to draw the English and French forces together

Sir Hyatt Laidley is dispatched to the castle De La Noye by King Edward III. The castle is held by Sir Giles de Pouvre; Giles is currently at Bordeaux in battle with the English. His wife, Lady Aurelie de Pouvre, is in charge, which she has done since their marriage. Her husband, Giles, was a weak man and up until this point, had avoided fighting by any method he could use. Lord Lavergne, Auriele's father, had requested of King Edward that a knight of repute be sent to take De La Noye since he knew the castle would fall to the English sooner or later and he had no respect for Giles; he did request that his daughter be spared. De La Noye is indeed taken and Giles is killed in battle. Lady Auriele defies Hyatt Laidley; she has always been the one in charge of her castle and though Giles was weak and ineffectual, she was loyal, loved him and was grieved. Hyatt is a strong commanding man who expects nothing less than complete loyalty and fealty to him by Auriele and her people; he weds Auriele as a means to strengthen his position as new lord. From the onset, he tells her he does not love her and his distrust of her and women in general is known. His two year old son and the child's mother, Faon, are present; Hyatt has promised to see to her care for her care of their son; he does not love her however and spurns all her approaches. Faon hates Auriele and uses every opportunity to display her feelings as well as pretending to have a relationship with Hyatt other than the true one. This is a good book; a little different from the usual medieval romance; I recommend the book.

How they fall in love is endearing. I love how he completely believes love is a farce that only women can feel and then falls in love without realizing how protective he really is. He's charming and she's adorable. This is a great book. The other woman who is full of spite makes things interesting.

Bice historical romance.
MEGA FREEDY
It was enjoyable

Another of Robyn's stories that I just do not want to end, I keep looking to see if she has written more in the historical romance line, wish the history teachers in school could make learning history this easy.

Robyn Carr has written a wonderful story about two people caught in the long conflict between France and England. It keeps you intrigued to see if the hero and heroine can ever even tolerate each other.

I appreciated the author focusing on characters rather than using up several chapters on sex. Through her words I could see the landscape and castle and felt like I was transported back in time. Her ability to describe in detail truly made this story come alive.
This book by Robyn Carr was a very good read and the story line moved at a rate to keep the reader turning pages to find out how it all ends.
