I hate every goddamn minute of it, said Angie, a skeletal woman with a scowl on her face that could scare puppies ough it. I just want to be marr. I just want to be married already. I looked around the table at our ill-fated group of five. This was a new one for me. Now I was blind dating in a pack, as if one-on-one blind dates weren’t horrible enough.

I savored reading this book So I picked up the book anyway just to criticize its probably lame fantasy portrayal of salsa.

I savored reading this book. The salsa scenes, the modern dating stories, the smart protagonist, the laughs all made for a book I didn't want to finish. Ahi-na-ma!" By Thriftbooks. com User, October 27, 2005. I was in a bookstore this weekend and I ran across this book. I'm not a romance novel reader by any stretch of the imagination. But, as an aspiring writer myself, I'm always interested in keeping up on what's selling. So I picked up the book anyway just to criticize its probably lame fantasy portrayal of salsa.

Hornak works hard to keep things lively. Just as Samantha envisions herself walking down the aisle with this catch, a juicy complication arises in the guise of a sultry Latin dance instructor, who is all wrong for the assignment. He’s younger, uneducated and possesses none of the trappings of success that Trés Chic readers will expect from this contrived wedding arrangement. Samantha has to decide between listening to her head or her heart. But it’s only on the dance floor, swaying to a salsa beat, that the feels real passion. JoAnn Hornak - this is her first book, apparently (guess who's been googling :roll Kate Hudson immediately comes to mind for me, but the similarities between the Adventures of a Salsa Goddess and How to lose a guy in 10 days may be too close .

As part of an assignment for Tres Chic magazine, forty-something Samantha Jacobs is headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in order to snag the man of her dreams as part of her boss's attempt to prove that women over forty can find true love, but Samantha's plans are interrupted by her too young, too poor, and too sexy new salsa instructor. A first novel. Original.

Samantha Jacobs had almost married once, but David broke up with her just before their wedding, after they'd been together for three years. Now at 41, Sam didn't have any prospects. When her boss at the magazine tells Sam she's sending her to Milwaukee, the hardest city for single women to find a husband, and she's to find a husband in three months, Sam thinks the woman is insane. But, when she says Sam can have the humor column if she pulls this off, Sam finds herself in Milwaukee. After trying all outlets, she finds Robert Mack, a businessman that her mother and her boss would approve of. She also finds salsa dancing and Javier, a caring, gentle man who takes her to heights never imagined. When what she thought was true turns inside out and all her suppositions fall apart, what will she do, and will her life shatter apart when things land?

This may be the hardest book to rate I've ever read. I hated parts of it, but other parts were interesting and enjoyable. When it opens with a wife calling Sam for having an affair with her husband, I almost quit reading. Even though Sam didn't know he was married, it's obvious she has a lifestyle of casual sex. At times the book bordered on crude, if not lewd. "Two sets of dewy-eyed hand-holding couples with we've-just-gotten-out-of-bed-after-a-night-and-morning-of-amazing-sex looks on their faces were sitting at tables on either side of me. Post-bonking hormones swirled through my airspace...." Then there was the date who was turned on by smelling her gym shoes and "feeling up" a pair of her black panties. In addition, there was profanity scattered about, even "g.d." There were countless times I told myself I was going to quit and delete this nonsense, but I kept reading because of the storyline and tried to ignore the naughty parts.

Parts of the book were engaging. The author has talent, but she often tries to be too witty and sacrifices decency for shocking humor. The story unfolds in a way that kept me reading to see what would happen. Although Sam is a bit selfish and immature, she is not too unlikable, and Javier was pretty dreamy. Sam's secret assignment was over-the-top, but the rest of the plot had enough twists and turns and allowed an interesting story to unfold. There is sex, but it's not explicit. In fact, at one point, Sam is sleeping with two men without either one knowing about the other. If someone had warned me of these things, I wouldn't have purchased it, but, at the same, I did keep reading it, so that deserves something. In the end, I considered the book was well-written for the most part, I hated some of it, but I enjoyed other parts, so I tried to average things out and gave it a three. Please note, however, that I'm not saying all the content is okay.

As a former dancer myself, I was excited to read this story. It was EXCELLENT! The main character, Samantha, is a delight to follow on all her adventures. I loved reading about Samantha's dates, especially the parts about her salsa instructor. The pages really heated up during those scenes! The plot moved along at a fast pace, there were nice elements of romance, the writing was smart and funny, and the characters were well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this story. A very fun read. Highly recommend!

This is a charming book which gets it exactly right on relationships and reality, two words that often seem only distantly related. I truly loved it.

It could stand the attentions of a reasonably skilled editor*, so I hope for a second edition.

* Hint: "Wit" is something clever. "Whit" is just a bit less so.

The only thing missing was the brutal cad. I loved the attitude of writing. Good read. I would recommend this book.
Enone
I enjoyed the content and the style of writing. I can relate to some of the online dating experiences she had, although not quite so bad.
Jugore
I really enjoyed this book, it was really good. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romantic story.

Couldn't believe how dumb this book is. A truly self indulgent woman that just hasn't grown up.
Not a bad example of what is wrong with a lot of American women
Very good read
