SKINNY-DIPPING CLAIRE MATTURRO Dedication To Mary Catherine Carter Hamner and William Peter Matturro Contents Cover Title Page Dedication Chapter 1 Chapter . To Mary Catherine Carter Hamner and William Peter Matturro. I, Lilly Rose Cleary, have a nearly endless capacity for driving myself crazy. That’s why I ended up in law school, that and a serious lack of any readily discernible talents, despite my being smart and tall for a girl.

Lilly Cleary is an attorney for a prestigious Sarasota law firm

She's defended everyone from a pet psychic to an orange libeler, and she's done so with finesse. But it's another situation entirely when she finds out that her phobic and dysfunctional mother has been accused of murder. Lilly Cleary is an attorney for a prestigious Sarasota law firm. But her killer cross–examination technique and take–no–prisoners courtroom attitude haven't stopped the senior partners from dumping one stink bomb after another on her desk –– like the kayak–whiplash case she's currently saddled with.

Here’s Lilly Rose Cleary in defense of a client being sued for kayak whiplash. Lilly Rose is brilliant, Lilly Rose is triumphant, but not for long. Lilly Rose’s triumphs lack staying power.

Bronner’s peppermint soap, Detective Santuri was already sitting in my office, waiting. Bonita shrugged when I glared first at Sam and then at her.

Bronner’s peppermint soap, Detective Santuri was already sitting in my office, waiting good morning, and I left my door cracked so Bonita could overhear from her office without straining. So what do you know about those other malpractice lawsuits against Trusdale?. I jumped in and asked before Sam could get started

Lilly Cleary is an attorney for a prestigious Sarasota law firm.

This is supposed to be the start of a series featuring attorney Lilly Cleary. I found it entertaining and a page turner. Matturro has been pegged as a female Hiaasen.

Lilly Cleary is an attorney for a prestigious Sarasota law firm. But her killer cross-examination technique and take-no-prisoners courtroom attitude haven't stopped the senior partners from dumping one stink bomb after another on her desk—like the kayak-whiplash case she's currently saddled with. And problems at home, specifically with her ex–boyfriend, aren't making her disposition any sunnier.

But it isn't until she's mugged outside her office that her troubles really begin. And when someone puts a bullet hole in her favorite suit, Lilly realizes things are getting a bit too personal. Perhaps it has something to do with a malpractice lawsuit she's inherited, and her recently and suspiciously deceased doctor client. Lilly's not going to take the insult lying down—even if tracking a killer leads her into dangerously deep water.

What a great "Who Dunnit"! I found the main character, Lilly, to be amusing, witty, and quirky. I hate, hate, hate reviews with spoilers so I'll just hint a little and say that I could relate to quite a few of her OCD tendencies and found the situations she ended up in believable and true to life, as did I find the characters. My eyes were opened on more than one occasion on the ways and working of the legal and medical systems. It certainly made me think. Claire Matturo is to be commended for the solid story she created. She managed to keep me guessing right up to the the reveal. With a touch of romance, a bit of humor, a good deal of peril and a whole lot of mystery, this is a book you won't put down. As for me, I started it with the intention of reading a bit tonight and finishing over the next few days and the next thing I knew I was reading the epilogue! Great job!

This books is like its protagonist: witty, sexy, and with a dark sense of humor. Life, love and death are viewed with the cynical eyes of a successful attorney who likes to win. She does, however, have a soft spot for dogs and ultimately for one of the most unexpected of creatures. I loved this about Lilly, how under the tough shell she is actually a fun-loving girl with a big heart. You'll just have to dig a little to find it, and you won't regret it.

This novel is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Lilly Rose Cleary is a funny, quirky, strong woman. I liked her from the first page. All of the characters are well written and interesting. Whether you love them or hate them. I loved that this mystery had a touch of romance and humor as well. A perfect weekend read!

Author Claire Hamner Matturro has put together a winner in her first novel. Bringing her journalistic knowledge, legal writing skills and insight into human nature together, she has created a protagonist in the form of Lilly Rose Cleary that will likely last through several sequels.

Alternatively exhibiting inner strength, self-doubt and a prickly sense of humor, Lilly is the type of character where most readers can find a component that matches their own psyche.

The book is short enough to be read in a weekend or a few evenings and lighthearted enough to leave the reader feeling satisfied with the effort. With a few autobiographical splashes thrown in, Matturro adds realism. Can she carry it forward to future editions as personal experiences fade and Lilly's character becomes more complex? I'm betting yes!

I had the author as a law school professor and also have a lot of first hand knowledge about insular Florida legal communities. Those who share a similar background will have the most fun with Claire's novel. The author actually lived this stuff as a P.I. litigator in a respected Sarasota insurance defense firm; not that the plot isn't fictional, but the law firm culture depicted in the novel is something you have to experience to write about this way. Law students thinking about doing P.I. should read this first. Nice going, Claire. You passed golden handcuffs on the side of the road without slowing down.

I loved this book, maybe more than some other people might because I am a lawyer (although not a litigator like Lilly). There are a few plot holes, but the writing is so entertaining that I only thought about them afterwards. My biggest gripe is - proofreading is even worse than todays's unfortunate average. There are some really noticeable mistakes.

new book arrived as estimated. no problems
I like somewhat lighthearted mysteries, especially if the protagonist is an intelligent, professional female. However, all the characters in this book are more caricatures than characters. Lilly Rose is apparently the only one with any brains in this story, all the other lawyers, including the two partners in her law firm are either stupid or incompetent. The insurance investigator is an idiot and doesn't check facts properly, and her former lover, Newly, is a real mess - going through his third (I think) messy divorce. Lilly Rose is supposed to be so intelligent, but she lets Newly use her as a doormat, moving into her apartment one suitcase at a time and allowing him to move his ferret in also because his wife threw him out of the house and froze all his accounts. What kind of a lawyer is he anyway to be that stupid? Even the cop isn't too bright. But she manages to fall into bed with one or the other throughout the story. And, of course, there's the typical dumb blond bimbo.

None of the characters seem real, and Lilly Rose is not a character that a person can warm up to. Her constant (and I mean constant) referring to the brain-damaged child in the malpractice lawsuit she is defending as "veggie baby" is completely tasteless and crass. She defends it by saying it's a defense mechanism, like galllows humor. But it really bothered me. I got to the point where I wish the killer of the two doctors got to Lilly Rose. I don't think I'll be reading another of this author's books.
