I have adopted Morality and Machines as the text for my Computer Ethics course for spring term, 2017. I looked at several text, but some seemed more bent on laying out the rules, as for compliance. Teaching morality to machines is hard because humans can’t objectively convey morality in measurable metrics that make it easy for a computer to process. In moral dilemmas, humans tend to rely on gut feeling instead of elaborate cost-benefit calculations. Machines, on the other hand, need explicit and objective metrics that can be clearly measured and optimized

Several books have been published on computer ethics (also referred to as machine ethics/morality). Thus, it becomes important that morality based decision-making becomes a part of artificial intelligence systems.

Several books have been published on computer ethics (also referred to as machine ethics/morality). In the book Moral Machines (Wallach and Allen, 2009), a hypothetical scenario is outlined where unethical robotic trading systems contribute to an artificially high oil price, which leads to the automated program to control energy output switches over from oil to more polluting coal power plants to avoid increasing electricity prices. These systems must be able to evaluate the ethical implications of their possible actions.
