This is an outstanding, excellent book. I've read a lot of business books in my days, and this is one of the best ever. As to the price - it's a bargain for what you get! What's more, you don't have to be in the recruiting business to get a lot out of it. If you do any sort of "consultative selling", especially where there is a lot of phone work involved, you will find this book enormously useful. It provides an excellent, step-by-step methodology that guides you through many different aspects of working in the recruiting field that will help lead to your success. The skills one can learn in this book are clearly transferrable to other industries to sell a variety of other products and services. This book isn't some sort of generic overview from a braggadocious executive preaching from on high about how smart and successful he is. Rather, it offers the reader comprehensive guidance and a carefully laid out series of instructions from an author who provides terrific "hands-on" advice. It's like having the world's leading expert on this topic standing there with you in your office, giving you great, heartfelt advice. What you have in this book is the voice of experience - and of a man who clearly has a passionate desire to help others succeed just as he has, as well as the gift of being able to write it all down so clearly and elegantly. The book is dense with useful material, yet almost effortless to read and absorb. It begins with simple things - things that might sound so obvious (like how to organize your desk and manage your time), that you might read this and other reviews and say to yourself: "Heck, I don't need to buy a book to know how to organize my desk!" To the skeptics I can only say: trust me - buy the book (and a good highlighter), find a quiet spot, and start reading. You'll be glad you did.

Great Book for recruiters that have been in the business for 6 months. I have been in the business for 9 years and it still had helpful information for myself that I will share with the recruiters that I train. I will buy his next book and read that too. I am a big fan of Steve Finkel, I am trying to convince the owners to let us buy the DVD's for training new recruiter too

Search and Placement has opened the veil of the "how" to deal with the human aspect of recruiting. There are plenty of trees that have given their lives for monetary gain of any given field that happens to be the "flavor of the month" but S & P prepares the man or woman who is commited to being successful not only financially but personally in the field of recruiting. In this field, confidence is the key and Steve gives personal observations illustrating this; for instance, *confidence* doesn't permit you to reduce your fees. Secondly, discipline. Personal discipline assures the action you need to take to make the goals you set. Case in point, on pg. 24 under the sub-heading of "Self-Control", the example given was making outgoing sales calls. It takes discipline to DO THE WORK and make the calls. Forget about the rate of return making cold calls...just DO THE WORK as Steve suggests and you will be successful and then you will gain confidence.

In summary, this book is THE primer for someone looking to break into the field or someone who maybe has lost their touch and needs a refresher.

In my opinion `Search and Placement A Handbook for Success' should be mandatory reading for those contemplating entering this profession, Explaining in detail what you need to do on a daily basis to be successful. If you really cannot see yourself doing these things then I would suggest you save yourself a lot of trouble and do something else for a living.

For those already in this profession, be it for a day or a decade, `Search and Placement A Handbook for Success' along with `Breakthrough Exploding the Production of Experienced Recruiters' form the basic training and advanced training that Provides a roadmap that starts at the beginning and takes you to the daily habits required for a successful recruiting consultant. From longer range planning to a daily plan, daily operation of your desk, taking a job order, recruiting a candidate, making a placement and follow up. Along the way are easy to understand instructions and anecdotes that allow you to develop the Process of successful recruiting.

The combined wisdom, experience and writing ability of both Larry Nobles and Steve Finkel have created an out of the ballpark homerun in the recruiting hall of fame.
