Written with such clarity and ambition, The Maxx is a thoroughly realized allegory of how we, as humans, create our own reality, and how that reality simultaneously limits us and allows us to transcend the damage of the past.

Written with such clarity and ambition, The Maxx is a thoroughly realized allegory of how we, as humans, create our own reality, and how that reality simultaneously limits us and allows us to transcend the damage of the past. I read this about fifteen years ago, and I just started rereading it.

An extremely imaginative and profound series, THE MAXX tells the tale of a fractured woman whose repressed emotions and memories prevent her from living a normal life and the hulking purple super-hero who tries to save her.

Just as there is no loss of basic energy in the universe, so no thought or action is without its effects, present or ultimate, seen or unseen, felt or unfelt. A fantastic book!
Gold as Heart
Step into a world of rich color and fantasy escapism. The Maxx struggles between two realities one where he is homeless social outcast and another where he is King of the fantastical world called the outback. In the real world there is a lot of darkness and violence living in the run down corrupt city. In the outback there is vast desert and interesting creatures. The Maxx's only friend between the world is Julie a social worker who is dealing with her traumatic past. There is sadness, there is sarcasm, the is dark humor and an occasional tiny glimmers of light.
Xangeo
If you're looking to collect The Maxx comics series I would recommend this volume rather than Wildstorm edition. The cover, with it's beautifully embossed Maxx logo looks a lot nicer. Also it has a nice collection of cover art in the back that aren't in the Wildstorm edition. Get it!
