This is an Amish novel, written by a woman that grew up Amish. I was totally intrigued by it when I read it back in 1980, as I knew little about the Amish and this was my first introduction into that world. Shortly after I started reading this book, I became acquainted with an Amish family, and was happy I knew a little something about Amish culture. Katie must have left a great impression on me, so much so, that thirty years later I began to write novels about the Amish myself. If you are an Amish novel reader, I believe you should read this book. Reading Katie, will give a slightly different take on the Amish than contemporary novels do, but it will be a fun history lesson. Read it and decided for yourself how Amish novels have changed over the years! Thomas Nye

This book was given to me when I was around 17 years old. I put it away and forgot about it until my early 20's I run across it and decided to read it. I have read it several times now and each time I read it I am transformed to Katie's Amish life. I have read every book of Clara B. Miller's books that I can get my hands on. Everyone of them are great. I hope that her books will become available on e-books soon.
