To change their deplorable status, presently the Oromo national movement is engaged in struggle to restore Oromo democracy and to liberate the Oromo people from all forms of oppression and exploitation (Jalata, 2010; 2012). A few elements of the Oromo educated class clearly understood the impact of Ethiopian colonialism on Oromo society by familiarizing themselves with Oromo history, culture, values, and various forms of the Oromo resistance to Ethiopian colonialism (Jalata, 1998). As an Oromo Ethiopian, I was offended reading this book. I hope the western world realizes the suffering of the Oromo people in the Ethiopian Empire states sooner than later and I believe the book contributes a lot in this regard. The Oromo people do not want special treatment, nor 'independence'. It is an insult to write about 'Oromo Independence', since Oromo people are as independent as they can be. This is to provoke anti-Ethiopian, anti-Oromo feelings for the sole purpose of POWER. 6 people found this helpful.

1. Oromia is the land of Oromos, the bread basket of east Africa.
2. There are as many indegeneous Oromos as there are diverse Kenyans, as there are diverse Sudans. Each of Oromia, sudan and Kenya are believed to consist of approximately 30M people.
3. If Oromia becomes independent, who will till the land and feed the Proud Ethiopians?
4. The "great" grand fathers successfully deprived Oromos from getting necessary educations and analization that may make them aware of their power in the horn of Africa. Now, Asafa and others are trying to reverse this. If he goes back to Ethiopia, proud Ethiopians will hang him up because he betrayed the "Ethiopian Principle". "Ethiopia" is by definition "life at the expense of the Oromo people".

It is an insult to write about 'Oromo Independence', since Oromo people are as independent as they can be. This is to provoke anti-Ethiopian, anti-Oromo feelings for the sole purpose of POWER. What the Oromo want is development NOT a political map. At the time of this writing there are about 15 conflicts in Africa, all has to do with ethnic conflicts one way or the other, sure enough there is no place for ethnic conflict in Ethiopia. Deliver housing, clean water, food to all people of Ethiopia, not bullets. It doen't do any good to dwell in the past and provoke hatred among people. Who is 'Pure Oromo', 'Pure Amhara' etc in Ethiopia? Our people have inter-married and lived together for ages, and we want it just that way.
Peace to all people of that great land we all call home, ETHIOPIA. Teach Oromo people its culture, language and history not hatred to his/her brothers and sisters. God Bless PS (you can read we as Ethiopians)
