The problem of selective laser coagulation, . optimal laser control over dimensions, shapes, and location of the region of tissue coagulation (thermodenaturation) by an appropriate choice of parameters of the active laser radiation is considered.

The appeal of on-chip broadband supercontinuum generation (SCG) comes from its potential to pave the way to full integration of various ultrafast optics applications in frequency metrology, wavelength division multiplexing, and sensing. However, the generation of octave-spanning supercontinuum requires either the use of exceedingly short femtosecond pulses or large footprints.

Lasers are widely used in Ophthalmology. The unique transparent tissues of the eye's cornea, lens and vitreous body make lasers an ideal medium for diagnosis and therapy. This paper gives a short overview on selected laser applications in our department. C) 2010 Published by Elsevier .

The results obtained are of essential interest for laser applications in ophthalmology and can be used for investigation of heating and coagulation of tissues in different fields of laser medicine. Therapeutic Laser Applications and Laser-Tissue Interactions. Ultrafast lasers are suitable for different surgical procedures in the eye: As a main goal in our group, the application of fs-lasers in refractive surgery is studied. SPIE (Optical Society of America, 2003), paper 5142 146. Therefore, experiments in living rabbits were conducted, with wound healing studies up to 120 days after surgery. Moreover, highly precise cuts inside the cornea were used to do keratoplasty and lamellar keratoplasty. Further applications like a new technique to overcome presbyopia are shown.

Graphic illustration of femtosecond laser creating corneal flap during LASIK surgery. Lasers have become as essential to the practicing ophthalmologist as the scalpel, the magnifier and sterile gloves. A beam of light can reshape a cornea to improve its focus, create a channel within the eye to relieve the intraocular pressure of glaucoma or cauterize tiny hemorrhages. During the past decade, lasers have been branching out from ophthalmologic treatments into the diagnostic realm.
