Louis Leon Thurstone (29 May 1887 – 30 September 1955) was a . pioneer in the fields of psychometrics and psychophysics. He conceived the approach to measurement known as the law of comparative judgment, and is well known for his contributions to factor analysis.
Louis Leon Thurstone was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 29, 1887, to two Swedish immigrants, Conrad and Sophia Thunstrom. The family eventually changed the last name to Thurstone to avoid confusion of pronunciation and spelling

The family eventually changed the last name to Thurstone to avoid confusion of pronunciation and spelling. The first 14 years of Louis’s life was transient as his father changed careers several times. The career changes took the family first from Chicago to a small town in Illinois (Berwyn), then to Mississippi.
