Exploring the questions of today Sociology Now reflects the discipline today and explores the big questions about multiculturalism and globalization that sociologists ask. Sociology has always offered a way to make sense of the complex and sometimes contradictory forces that shape our social lives in any era. As Sociology Now explains sociology as both a body of knowledge and a "way of seeing," it shows how the forces of globalization and multiculturalism have come to preoccupy sociologists and influence the way they look at the events and experiences.

If you're someone who can study from the bare essentials (think similar to CliffNotes on subjects) then I would easily recommend this study guide over the actual book. ISBN-13: 978-0205757121. Sociology Now: The Essentials The author does an excellent job presenting sociology as a field of study . Complexity of Sociology - Kimmel and Aronson discuss how Sociology (like life) is not an "either/ or" situation - our world is more complex.

Sociology Now: The Essentials. Michael S. Kimmel, State University of New York-Stony Brook. Amy Aronson, Fordham University. The author does an excellent job presenting sociology as a field of study driven by the scientific method. The discussion was readable, yet full of information. I thought the author did an excellent job representing the major perspectives of sociology. To help examine this complexity, each chapter opens with an example that asks students to consider a paradox.

Sociology Now reflects the discipline today and emphasizes the big questions about multiculturalism and globalization that sociologists ask.

Sociology has always offered a way to make sense of the complex and sometimes contradictory forces that shape our social lives in any era. As Sociology Now explains sociology as both a body of knowledge and a "way of seeing," it shows how two such forces in particular have come to preoccupy sociologists and influence the way they look at the events and experiences of the early twenty first century:

The first is globalization--the economic, political, cultural, and social interconnections among people and institutions all over the world.

The second is multiculturalism--the recognition that race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, religion, and other statuses are sources of social inequality, but also the foundations of our identities.

Michael Kimmel, a leading sociologist and gender researcher, and co-author Amy Aronson, a journalist and media scholar, address these questions head-on as they make a compelling case for the importance of sociology in the contemporary world.

I took a Sociology class in Maymester--2 weeks of 4.5 hour classes each day. Instead of buying the $100+ book, I just picked up this study guide. This study guide had all the necessary information from the book, and had around 30 multiple choice questions from each chapter--some of which were also used by my professor (must have been included in his test bank from the publishers).

If you're someone who can study from the bare essentials (think similar to CliffNotes on subjects) then I would easily recommend this study guide over the actual book. It's always nice to just flip through the main words and ideas from a chapter, then quiz yourself over 30 multiple choice questions to make sure you picked up on the main concepts. All in all, well worth my money.

What a piece of trash. The difference between this version and the previous versions are the cover. The worst thing is, the Student Access Code Card is "almost" as useless. When I was trying to register for the code, it didn't recognized the code, and the "Help Desk" are totally useless... more phone calls unless you are an instructor or a technician..., only emails... thanks for nothing. For the money that "I had to purchased at the college because of the Student Access Code Card", I would had taken the classroom versus online.

This book was required for one of my college courses. I probably wouldn't have picked it up if it weren't required for the course. That being said, it was a good book.

I was hoping that all of my books would have come in time. I have had three classes now with no book. There has been no tracking information provided to me and no status on the book either. I'm really upset. This seller is highly rated for sending books in a timely manner.

The book was delivered two weeks after allowed receiving date. This is the wrong version thaan the one we ordered. Class had to be dropped due to lack of book. I will not reorder from your site again. How do I return book and get credit?

Good manual. Help to organize study. I wish it has photos or schemes for illustration. Some other guides include PowerPoint Slides.

Wow am I happy I got it online for far less than what my school was trying to sell it for. I'm happy that I did not have to spend more than $20 on a textbook.
I had to purchase this book for a class I'm taking and while I admit I'm not a sociologist I am a Humanities major and this book is one of the worst I've ever had to read for a class.
