MAMMAL TEETH is a very well written book. As part of the background, the evolution of non mammalian teeth is briefly covered. The development and growth of teeth is also covered. CHEWING is well covered
MAMMAL TEETH is a very well written book. Peter Ungar has written MAMMAL TEETH with the learner in mind. The book is well organized and background information is provided, but not to the degree that the background information becomes a distraction. Terms are explained and often the explanations are repeated to remind the learner (good teaching technique). CHEWING is well covered. Outside of Mammalia, chewing is a simple up-and-down motion, as if the jaw-skull joint was a door hinge.

Their 1997 book, Classification of Mammals above the Species Level, is a comprehensive work on the systematics, relationships and occurrences of all mammal taxa, living and extinct, down through the rank of genus, though molecular genetic data challenge several of the higher level groupings. The authors worked together as paleontologists at the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Progression towards an erect limb posture, which would increase the animals' stamina by avoiding Carrier's constraint.
