Описание: It is a strange fact that many modern cell biochemists have a keen interest in biosynthetic processes, such as protein and nucleic biosynthesis or organelle biogenesis, but tend to regard degradative processes merely as irritating reactions that disrupt the flow of synthetic reactions.

Mitochondria- Structure and Functions. Mitochondria are oxygen-consuming ribbon-shaped cellular organelles of immense importance floating free throughout the cell. The enzymatic oxidation of chemical compounds in the mitochondria release energy.

Mitochondria – Structure and Functions.

Mitochondrial biogenesis and functions depend on the import of precursor proteins via the ‘translocase of the outer membrane’ (TOM complex). Defects in protein import lead to an accumulation of mitochondrial precursor proteins that induces a range of cellular stress responses.

Mitochondrial biogenesis is the process by which cells increase mitochondrial mass

Mitochondrial biogenesis is the process by which cells increase mitochondrial mass. It was first described by John Holloszy in the 1960s, when it was discovered that physical endurance training induced higher mitochondrial content levels, leading to greater glucose uptake by muscles. Mitochondrial biogenesis is activated by numerous different signals during times of cellular stress or in response to environmental stimuli, such as aerobic exercise.
