Botanist, writer, and photographer Stephen Ingram traveled more than 30,000 miles (much of it on remote backroads) to search out, study, and photograph the cacti, agaves, and yuccas of California and Nevada. He also delved into the scientific literature, visited numerous herbaria, and interviewed our region's leading experts on Cactaceae and Agavaceae. The result is a detailed, highly readable, and beautifully illustrated natural history and field guide. Cacti, Agaves, and Yuccas of California and Nevada is an engaging and substantive reference book that can be enjoyed by novice and expert alike.

I purchased my book for a project I was doing on ethnobotany of the Southern California Native Americans. This book quickly became invaluable to those ends. Well written and informative this is perfect for the novice and expert alike. This is one of the most important things you'll want with you for desert trips ( beside water, firewood and cold beer...)

Stephen Ingram has produced a very worthy field guide with his book "Cacti, Agaves, and Yuccas of California and Nevada"! He goes far beyond the pictures and maps of most guide books and provides detailed sections on the plants' ecology, conservation needs and propogation.
The photos are detailed and stunning, and not limited to the usual one per plant. This is a must have book for any one interested in the plants found in the Mojave desert, as well as parts of nighboring deserts.

Not only was this book extremely informational, the photographs were absolutely beautiful. It is hard to find a book with both. I wish more writers had the ability to write AND shoot beautiful photos.

I saw this book at the bookstore at the Borrego State Park. I didn't want to pay $32.00 at the time and decided to order it through Amazon. It is a very nice book with lots of color photos. Anyone who enjoys the desert and its vegetation, would love this book.

I am a botanist and was looking for additional field guides. I really enjoy this one and it seem good for all level of botany.
This is the perfect book for all types of plant enthusiasts. Stephen Ingram has combined his beautiful photographs with a nice description of each species, including basic ecology, distributional information, and fun facts about the history, nomenclature, native american uses, etc. It is easy to read, and although not something you would want to carry into the field, a "must have" reference book for any desert botanist. It is also such a beautiful display of photos that it serves as nice gift to anyone who appreciates plants, nature, or the desert.
