great for people who loves math
I had always wanted to go to college, but my high school math skills were sufficient for me to get into college. My community college offered this series of programmed books as a remedial math lab to enable those deficient in math skills to become able to complete college math in the future. This was absolutely the only time I ever understood Algebra. It is self-paced and everything is clearly laid out with directions on where to find the answers. I can never say enough good things about this series of books. I proceeded to college and got both my BA and Master's Degree once I got over the Math hurdle. Over the years my books were lost so I am buying them again for review.
It is a shame this series is out of print. Most algebra books attempt to teach step by step, but this method is unique in that the steps are so small and numerous that one hardly realizes that the terrain is hilly. The true benefit of the program is not to be found in a result, such as passing an algebra course. This is more of a brain-training program where the student's mind is rewired to think mathematically.
I ordered this book but received an earlier edition, which I can not use.
I used this series of books in the 1970s. I studied Commercial Art at a vocational school. This was the first year of the program and the second year the school was open. They didn't offer all the subjects I had planned I had planned to take at my high school, so I worked with my counselor to complete college reading requirements, and took a math course in night school that used this book series. I completed Algebra II. The college I chose actually called to congratulate me on my high ACT scores. In college I was in the Honors Program and graduated Magna cum Laude. I earned a BA in Art Education and attended graduate school. I highly recommend this series of books.
